How Our CrawlSpace System Improves Air Quality

Some Indoor Air Pollution Facts

Your crawl space contributes to poor air quality in your home Indoor air pollution contributes to lung disease, including respiratory tract infections, asthma, and lung cancer. Lung disease claims close to 335,000 lives in America every year and is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Over the last decade, the death rate for lung disease has risen faster than for almost any other major disease.

Poor indoor air quality can cause or contribute to the development of chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. In addition, it can cause headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion, nausea and fatigue. People who already have respiratory diseases are at greater risk.

Biological pollutants, including molds, bacteria, viruses, pollen, dust mites, and animal dander promote poor indoor air quality and may be a major cause of days lost from work and school.

An estimated one out of every 15 homes in the United States has radon levels above 4pci/L, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency-recommended action level. Radon, a naturally occurring gas, can enter the home through cracks in the foundation floor and walls, drains, and other openings. Indoor radon exposure is estimated to be the second leading cause of lung cancer. A recent report by the National Research Council estimates that radon is responsible for between 15,000 and 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the United States.

Where do air pollutants come from?

Sealing your crawl space can imprive the health of your family According to the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, a "typical" home in the United States has between .5 and 1.5 air changes per hour. Assuming your home is somewhere in the middle, say at 1 air change per hour (not a "tight house" but not a "drafty house" either), this would mean that every hour all the air in your home is replaced with new air.

Over 50% of this "new" air comes from your basement or crawl space. As warm air rises in the home, cool air from the crawl space is sucked into the living areas of the home. Called the "stack effect," it's how a chimney works. This, combined with other factors, means a significant amount of the air you breathe actually comes from your crawlspace.

How The CrawlSpace Guys System improves air quality

By completely sealing your crawl space and directing all ground gases and other pollutants away from your breathable air, the CrwalSpace Guys System will greatly improve the air quality throughout your home, providing a cost-effective, permanent solution to allergens and irritants by eliminating the source of the problem while creating a clean, dry, sanitary storage area and protecting the value of your home.
